New beginnings can come from a host of things such as relationships, health, career, finances, family, friendships, and spirituality to name a few. Change can stir up a wide range of thoughts and feelings. It can be exhilarating to overwhelming and everything in-between! What matters most is how we cope with it.
Recently, I have experienced enormous amounts of change that has left me with some physical maladies and stress-induced memory loss. However, there have been some very positive changes that has enabled me to feel more confident and in control alongside of the not-so-pleasant experiences I’ve endured this past year. It is like being in a whirlwind of thoughts and feelings. For me, this whirlwind is like being in a hurricane – being tossed about from here to there. However, the trick for me is to move to the eye of the storm where there is smoother sailing, it is calm there, the sky is blue and the sun so warm and caressing. Overall, it is about getting centered in one’s self.
So, you may be wondering how I do this. I have several things that I do to celebrate positive changes and coping strategies when adversity knocks at my door. Instead of listing those things, I found some interesting websites on new beginnings that you may enjoy as much as I did. They are:
· Songs that inspire change
· Images of new beginnings
It is also important to share your joy, sadness, frustration, etc. with someone else. If friends or family are not available and you can’t get in to see a counselor or afford one, utilize a warmline. There are many resources available in finding a warmline (a peer-to-peer support line). Here is a list of national warmline numbers that can walk with you in your journey with embarking on a new chapter in your life.
